Bill DiMento, High Liner's Corporate Director of Sustainability, believes that sustainability is not only the right thing to do but makes good business sense. With over 35 years of industry experience, Bill has spent the last five years working to ensure that High Liner Foods leads by example for the benefit of the broader seafood industry and to ensure that High Liners' sustainability initiatives positively impact communities. In 2010, High Liner made a bold pledge to purchase all of its seafood from certified sustainable or responsible fisheries and aquaculture farms by the end of 2013 and by February 2014, it achieved 99 percent of its sustainability goal. Working in conjunction with the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, High Liner surveyed all source fisheries and aquaculture operations to determine which were already sustainable, which could be improved, and which should be avoided. Bill worked with High Liner’s procurement team to engage suppliers to make further improvements and brought stakeholders together to stimulate further changes worldwide through fishery and aquaculture improvement projects. Beyond this work, Bill has led the momentum to build trust in industry and NGO partnerships, ensure transparency and expand the sustainable seafood community. He has consistently brought groups together to share lessons learned and share advice on sustainable seafood issues.
