7-Eleven launching new sandwich featuring wild Alaska pollock

Convenience store chain 7-Eleven plans to introduce a wild Alaska pollock sandwich to select U.S. locations, according to a Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) press release.

The sandwich, a “herb-crusted wild Alaska pollock fillet with American cheese and tartar sauce on a buttery bun,” will be available until 20 April, and will cost USD 2.49 (EUR 2.29). On Fridays, the sandwich can be purchased for USD 2.00 (EUR 1.80) by using the store’s 7REWARDS loyalty app on a smartphone. The introduction of the sandwich in participating stores is a part of GAPP’s third round of its North American Partnership Program.

“7-Eleven is always on the lookout for new and delicious fresh food that we think our customers will love and, once they’ve tried it, seek out again and again,” 7-Eleven Fresh Food Product Director Robin Murphy added. “Customers looking for a hot fish sandwich because they’re observing Lent dietary restrictions, or just because they love a good fish sandwich, can find this limited-time offering in our hot cases.”

The United States convenience store industry recorded 17 straight years of in-store sales growth in 2019. Some 22 percent of in-store sales, which amounted to USD 242.2 billion (EUR 222 billion), were food-related, which encompasses prepared food, commissary foods, and beverages.

“The convenience industry continues to experience record growth in the U.S., and we are excited to be collaborating with the world’s largest convenience store chain, 7-Eleven,” GAPP Chief Executive Officer Craig Morris said. “This collaboration is exactly what the program was designed to do — bring wild Alaska pollock into new channels, including convenience customers.”

GAPP is an Alaskan non-profit formed in 2003 to promote the marketing of once-frozen pollock products that are harvested and processed in the state. GAPP’s focus is on major whitefish markets around the world such as Europe, North America, and Japan.
