The U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking more suppliers of U.S. canned tuna and frozen walleye fillets.
In a notice, the agency said it is looking for feedback from companies that can supply 100 percent domestic tuna in 12-ounce and 66.5-ounce cans, as well as Kosher canned tuna in 66.5-ounce cans.
The USDA stressed that the notice is not a bid for solicitation; rather, it is for market research purposes.
“It is a request for information … and does not constitute a commitment by the government, nor is it a formal solicitation or request for offers,” the agency said. “The purpose of this notice is to conduct market research for the commercial availability of domestically produced tuna for USDA Food Programs. All information gathered in response to this notice will be used solely for planning purposes.”
In the tuna requests, the agency is asking companies to submit the product’s ingredients list, allergen panel, Nutrition Facts panel, Kosher and/or Halal certification if applicable, the minimum number of pallets that could be delivered to a single location, distribution limitations, estimated cost or market price per unit, and other information.
The USDA is also seeking walleye in 40/1-pound frozen packs.
The USDA said questions about the notices can be sent to the USDA’s New Vendor team at [email protected].
