Aquafeed suppliers gain opportunity out of China's new goal

There are “big opportunities” for aquafeed suppliers in China, thanks to a goal set by the government to drastically improve efficiency, according to the key official in charge of China’s feed industry.

China wants to improve efficiency by three percent per year, according to Ma You Xiang, head of the Animal Husbandry Bureau at the Agriculture Ministry and manager of the China Feed Work Office.

Under the China Agriculture Modernization Plan 2016-2020, there will be a 52-million-ton output in seafood, and a 90-million-ton output of meat. Those figures signify a slowdown in growth and require a dramatic improvement in efficiency, according to Ma. As a result, China will increase its feed output by four million tons per year over the next five years, from a current 200 million tons per year, Ma said.
