Cermaq hires new group marketing director to up global marketing organization

International salmon and trout farming company Cermaq has hired a new group marketing director as part of its efforts to build up its global marketing organization.

Cermaq, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, runs salmon and trout farming operations in Norway, Chile and Canada, announced the hire of Anders Tofte Wilhelmsen on Thursday, 16 June. Wilhelmsen, former Nordic marketing manager for snack company Mondelez International, will oversee the company’s recently reorganized global sales team, which is now composed of four regions covering the Asian, European, Latin American and North American markets.

“Cermaq's ambition is to become a global brand in the industry. Although the company name today is not that well-known beyond existing customers, the position is good because the company holds so many qualities which so far have not been profiled towards a wider market,” Wilhelmsen said. “To me this is an inspirational challenge which I cannot wait to embark on.”

Cermaq said in a press release it has invested more in its marketing efforts as part of the company's new strategy to target four strategic areas: customers, operations, sustainability and people.

“The salmon market is changing away from commodity market, and to meet the new opportunities Cermaq is building its global marketing organization,” Cermaq CEO Jon Hindar said. “The retailers in the main markets will play a bigger role in the market going forward, and our goal is that Cermaq shall be the customer's most preferred supplier of sustainable salmon.”
