Tilapia feed mill puts Ecuador on the BAP map

A feed mill in Ecuador has become the first of its kind in the country to obtain Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification.

GISIS, the shrimp and tilapia feed mill in question, also holds the distinction of being the third feed operation in South and Central America outside of Chile to win a BAP bid. For shrimp and tilapia companies looking to put out a four-star BAP product – four-star status being the top accolade under the BAP certification program – sourcing feed from GISIS could help get them one step closer to those top honors.

A part of Nutreco Group, a global leader in animal nutrition and fish feed, GISIS is located in Durán, Ecuador. As is inherent in operations that fall under the Nutreco umbrella, GISIS is guided by principles of quality, innovation and sustainability.

Best Aquaculture Practices is “an international certification program based on achievable, science-based and continuously improved performance standards for the entire aquaculture supply chain — from farms to hatcheries, processing plants and feed mills.” It is a division of the Global Aquaculture Alliance.
