The European Commission (EC) has announced the start of three new Advisory Councils (ACs) – for Aquaculture, Markets and the Black Sea – taking the total number of ACs up to 10.
ACs are stakeholder-led organizations that provide the Commission and EU countries with recommendations on fisheries management matters. This may include advice on conservation and socio-economic aspects of management, and on simplification of rules. They are also consulted in the context of regionalization.
The other seven councils comprise: Baltic Sea, Long Distance, Mediterranean Sea, North Sea, Northwestern Waters, Pelagic Stocks and Southwestern Waters.
