Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A.-based Kroger has introduced a line of seafood meals geared toward convenience.

New dishes under Kroger’s Private Selection’s line of oven- and microwave-ready options include ginger miso salmon, Tuscan-style salmon, blackened tilapia, bourbon-glazed cod, four cheese sauce Atlantic cod, and Creole-inspired mahi.

Additionally, the retailer is rolling out jumbo natural sea scallops and cedar-plank salmon, and other seafood options.

“Seafood at home has never been so quick, easy, and delicious,” Kroger Our Brands Vice President Juan De Paoli said. “Simplifying weeknight meals, elevating a family dinner, or putting a new spin on a classic seafood favorite, Our Brands’ new offerings have something for everyone – no expertise required.”

Besides frozen meals, Kroger also offers “easy-for-you seafood options” at its deli counters.

“Customers simply select a fish of their choice along with custom seasonings and garnishes. Selections are prepared for free in-store by associates in an oven-ready bag for a no-fuss meal,” the company said.

Rosemont, Illinois, U.S.A.-based US Foods is also releasing innovative seafood options as the spring season gets underway, particularly featuring gluten-free seafood as part of its new Spring Scoop meal lineup.

“Given evolving dietary and lifestyle preferences, it’s more important than ever for operators to appeal to a variety of diner desires, but the challenge is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution,” US Foods Vice President of Product Development and Innovation Stacey Kinkaid said in a press release. “With Spring Scoop, we’ve delivered a variety of on-trend, high-quality products that can meet specific preferences while also appealing to all diners regardless of their dietary or lifestyle choices.”

US Foods' new Harbor Banks gluten-free breaded Alaska sole meal contains Marine Stewardship Council-certified sole and features a “crunchy and light gluten-free coating made from an innovative combination of amaranth, quinoa, chia seeds, rice flour, and navy bean flour.”

“The fresh scent of herbs, combined with the savory flavors of garlic, salt, and pepper, is mild enough to allow operators to easily customize this dish,” US Foods said.

With nearly 30 percent of U.S. consumers limiting their gluten consumption or avoiding gluten completely, the company said it's critical for foodservice operators offer a variety of flavorful gluten-free options that appeal to the wide palates of diners.
