Two former executives behind the open ocean aquaculture company Kona Blue Water Farms, Neil Sims and Michael Bullock, came together to found Kampachi Farms in 2011. And while continuing on with the advancement of the innovative research started at Kona Blue, Kampachi Farms has pulled together plans to enhance a growout site in Bahia de La Paz, Mexico. 4_Fish.pngMonterey Bay Fisheries Trust, California (Wild Capture, Rights-Based Management) – The ultimate mission for the Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust is to “improve the social, economic and environmental values of Monterey Bay fisheries and associated communities.” Recent developments for the Trust include the securing of USD 1 million in commercial groudfish quota from The Nature Conservancy. “This will provide stability for our local ports and waterfront businesses, and it will ensure that future fishermen have access to this important fishery for years to come,” said David Crabbe, commercial fisherman and Board President of the Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust, of the acquisition.

7_fish.pngSalty Girl Seafood, California (Wild Capture, Supply Chain Innovation) – Salty Girl Seafood was created from the belief that sustainable, traceable and simple seafood should be easy to come by. The company rewards small-scale fishers who sustainably acquire their catch with the “business their commitment to our oceans deserves.” By working solely with local fishers who have been proven to harvest their catch in sustainable ways, Salty Girl Seafood is able to provide consumers with effective traceability. Salty Girl is a supporter of 1% For The Planet, “a global movement that allows socially and environmentally conscious businesses to give back 1 percent of their annual sales to nonprofits, both locally and nationally.”
