New measures by the Peruvian government are aiming to see the country’s aquaculture sector triple in size.
According to the Peruvian news agency Andina, the Peruvian government will be investing PEN 71 million (USD 22.2 million, EUR 20.3 million) into the sector, namely to create the Aquaculture Technological Innovation Centers (CITE), based in Lima.
The new consolidated centers will connect to five technical units based in regions throughout the country.
Right now, the news agency estimated Peru’s aquaculture sector represents only five percent of the country’s fishing output, but the long-term plan is to use the new center to help triple that amount.
