Transmarina tuna fleet gets FoS nod

Ecuadorian ultra frozen fish dealer Transmarina has received Friend of the Sea certification for its tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, opah and swordfish fishing operations.

Transmarina uses longline and purse seine fishing vessels in the Eastern Central Pacific Ocean, but the company employs measures to reduce bycatch, both for marine animals and sea birds.

“The Friend of the Sea audit has represented a very important and positive experience for Transmarine,” said Giansandro Perotti, Transmarina executive president. “Friend of the Sea certification provides an important recognition of our conservation efforts and lower impact fishing method.”

Transmarina was founded in Manta, Ecuador in 1980, and sells ultra frozen fish of various species to North America and EU markets.
