Mitsubishi enters Chinese seafood market

Mitsubishi Corporation is using a new partnership to enter into the Chinese seafood processing and distribution market.

Mitsubishi announced the partnership with Zhejiang Ocean Family Co. in Hangzhou, a known firm in processing, sale and distribution of seafood in China. Both companies will open a joint venture, called Zhejiang Daling Seafood Co. The new company will take over the domestic sales and marketing functions from Zhejiang Ocean Family. Mitsubishi will base its new business model in China on its experiences in the Japanese market.

Products will include Thai farmed shrimp, Japanese farmed tuna and Chilean farmed salmon, along with wild tuna, scallops and yellowtail.

The move is part of Mitsubishi's long-term plans to expand into Asian markets.
