Pier Fish back up and running after ammonia leak

An American seafood company is back at full production with no interruption in service after an ammonia leak forced an evacuation last week.

Pier Fish Co., of New Bedford, Mass., evacuated its facility on 5 February due to an ammonia leak caused by a malfunctioning plate freezer. However, the situation was contained and full production resumed the next day.

“We want to thank the New Bedford community and, in particular, New Bedford’s firefighters for their fast and appropriate response to the situation at our facility,” said Michael Barry, Pier Fish President and CEO.

Customer service was not interrupted due to the leak, the company said in a statement.
