SENA Panel: How US Seafood Consumers are Adapting to Inflation and Impacting Retail Sales

A 2023 SENA panel on seafood sales at retail.

The 2023 Seafood Expo North America (SENA), which took place 12 to 14 March in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A., and the 2023 Seafood Expo Global (SEG), which took place from 25 to 27 April, 2023, in Barcelona, Spain, featured a comprehensive conference program of live panel events focusing on topics chosen to be of vital interest to the seafood industry.

The 28 individual presentations from SENA and the 21 sessions from SEG featured exclusive information and insight from seafood industry experts, including economic forecasts and analysis on the trends and topics impacting the global seafood industry as it navigates issues of trade, food safety, traceability, aquaculture, sustainability, and consumption trends. Now, a video recording of each of these sessions is available for on-demand replay.

Featuring Category Partners Vice President Adam Brohimer and Category Partners Senior Vice President of Research and Market Intel Cara Ammon, “How U.S. Seafood Consumers are Adapting to Inflation and Impacting Retail Sales” is available free for SeafoodSource Premium members and for USD 300 (EUR 278) to non-members through the Complete Digital Ticket: Seafood Expo North America 2023.

The session was presented on Tuesday, 14 March 2023, with the following description:

Consumers are feeling increasing pressure with respect to product shortages and retail grocery price inflation. Traditional media, politicians, and investment advisors just to name a few are all discussing what is happening. Getting far less attention, but perhaps far more consequential, is the conversation around how seafood consumers are adjusting their shopping behaviors in anticipation of, or reaction to, price increases.

Category Partners has conducted a series of analyses and consumer surveys over the last 18 months designed to measure and track consumer sentiment and sales trends as events have unfolded. This session conducted by Category Partners will highlight what this research uncovered, covering topics like how long consumers anticipate the inflation trend to last, consumer switching across package sizes, deal seeking, product trade ups/downs, actual retail price points and product pricing trends, channel/retailer switching, and other elements important to them.

Category Partners will highlight consumer realities and dynamics at retail grocery that are occurring, or will be occurring, in a U.S. market near you.

The entire package of videos from SEG can also be purchased for USD 300 for non-members and is free to SeafoodSource Premium members through the Complete Digital Ticket: Seafood Expo Global 2023.
