Bhavana Scalia-Bruce is the Portland, Maine-based associate editor of SeafoodSource. She attended the University of Maine studying journalism and Spanish. Before joining the SeafoodSource team, Bhavana worked for DownEast magazine as an editorial intern, as well as a columnist and business manager for UMaine’s student award-winning newspaper, the Maine Campus.

In April 2024, the United States imported 50,672 metric tons (MT), or 111 million pounds, of shrimp, marking a decline from the 56,000 MT (123 million pounds) the U.S. bought in April 2023 and the 63,269 MT (129 million pounds) shipped to the U.S. in March 2024.

India remained the top shrimp exporter to the U.S. in April 2024, sending 21,166 MT (46 million pounds). This total represented a slight decrease from the 21,451 MT (47 million pounds)
