Erich is a Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based freelance reporter covering national aquaculture and north east fisheries for SeafoodSource. Earlier in his career he worked as a staff, or freelance, reporter for newspaper, online and radio broadcast media. London, United Kingdom-based Pentair has shuttered its Aquatic Eco-Systems aquaculture business, continuing a larger sell-off of the water treatment technology-maker’s aquaculture operations.

The move follows the May closure of Pentair’s corporate partner, Urban Organics, an aquaponics fish-and-produce enterprise based in St. Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A., which the company said failed to meet expectations.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently signed a bill into law establishing a new regulatory framework allowing for oyster aquaculture on the state’s Gulf Coast. 

Before passage of House Bill 1300, Texas was the only coastal state in the U.S. that didn’t allow oyster mariculture off its coasts. The new law allows oysters to be raised for their pearls, as well as their shells and meat.
