The Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF) is calling for applications for this year’s edition of the Alaska Symphony of Seafood contest.
AFDF started the annual competition in 1994 to encourage seafood product innovation for value-added products sourced from seafood caught in Alaska, U.S.A. to encourage local commercial fishing efforts, while leveraging sales beyond the state.
Last year, Thunder’s Catch’s Wild Salmon Curry won first place for best new retail product; the company previously took home a Seafood Expo North America 2023 Seafood Excellence Award for its Wild Salmon Chowder.
Wild Alaskan Company’s Sockeye Salmon with Teriyaki Glaze won second place, and Eva’s Wild Salmon Jerky took third place.
Other category winners included E&E Foods winning best new food service product for the company’s 49th Star Wild Alaska Sockeye Salmon Italian Meatballs, and most innovative award going to Trident Seafoods’ wellFURst Calming Support Freeze-Dried Health Supplement for Dogs.
Trident Seafoods also won the people’s choice award for its Crispy Battered Sauceable Wild Alaska Pollock Nuggets, which went on to win a 2026 Seafood Expo North America Seafood Excellence Award. Non-food seafood products can also be entered, like Kachemak Kelp’s sugar-kelp mineral bath soak cosmetic product Selkie Soak, which won the beyond the plate award.
The awards ceremony will take place 20 November at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. Winners can showcase products at Seafood Expo North America 2027 in Boston and will be awarded complimentary booth space and support.
