Bakkafrost salmon harvest, feed sales down in first quarter

Faroe Islands salmon producer Bakkafrost Group harvested 12,200 metric tons (MT) of gutted weight fish in the first-quarter of this year, which represented a 1,000 MT decrease compared with the corresponding period of 2017.

The contribution to the total from the company’s farming operations in the north of the Faroes amounted to 2,700 MT (down from 9,100 MT in Q1 2017), while its farms in the west supplied 9,500 MT (up from 4,100 MT).

Bakkafrost also sold 13,900 MT of feed in the last quarter, compared with 19,500 MT in Q1 2017. 

In 2017, the company harvested a total 54,615 MT of salmon, up from 47,542 MT in 2016 and 50,565 MT in 2015. 

It expects to harvest 51,000 MT this year.
