Eloy García has been named the new president of Conxemar, the Spanish association of wholesalers, importers, manufacturers and exporters of fish products and aquaculture.

The appointment was made at Conxemar’s annual meeting on 15 June, 2022, in Vigo, Spain, at which former president José Luis Freire announced his resignation. Conxemar Second Vice President Rafael Pauner also stepped down from his position at the meeting.

García has previously served as first vice president of Conxemar and was unanimously endorsed by Conxemar’s board of directors.

“Conxemar will continue to work to defend the interests of the associated companies at the national and international level and to continue contributing to the development of the frozen seafood industry,” the organization said in a press release.

In a speech at the meeting, Freire said the organization – which has grown to represent 228 seafood companies and firms related to the industry, collectively representing EUR 9 billion (USD 9.5 billion) in annual sales – had achieved significant success during his tenure. In particular, the Feria Conxemar, a trade show for the frozen seafood sector, “has achieved international relevance to become the main meeting point for the frozen seafood sector,” he said.
