Bellevue, Washington, U.S.A.-based Peter Pan Seafood Co. has signed a letter of intent to acquire Anchorage, Alaska, U.S.A.-headquartered Trapper's Creek Smoking Co.

The acquisition includes a smokehouse facility in Anchorage and the brands Copper River Smoking Company, Alaska’s Best, Trapper’s Creek, and Eat Like a Grizzly, according to Peter Pan.

“We are very proud to add these brands, including the Copper River brand, to the Peter Pan Seafood portfolio,” Peter Pan CEO Kevin Bixler said. “This will fuel our continued growth in new channels and value-added products.”

Peter Pan “is eager to expand with the addition of smoking capabilities and the growth of its footprint in Alaska,” according to Peter Pan Chief Growth Officer Rodger May. May, of Northwest Fish, McKinley Alaska Private Investment, McKinley Capital Management, and the RRG Global Partners Fund purchased Peter Pan from Maruha Nichiro in November 2020. The company has made a deeper commitment to value-added products and has been buoyed by an uptick in its e-commerce sales.

“We are committed to creating jobs in Alaska and in the U.S., and this is another example of that commitment,” May said. “We will bring our strong commitment to key stakeholders including employees, customers, fleet, suppliers, business partners and communities for both companies.”

Trapper’s Creek Smoking Co. Owner Andi Wahry will retain an advisory role at the company after the acquisition, according to Peter Pan.

“I've always envisioned a long and successful path for this company,” Wahry said. “I'm excited to see how the brand will thrive with Peter Pan at the helm.”
