– New Zealand-based salmon producer Akaroa King Salmon has named Stewart Hawthorn as its new CEO.

The aquaculture veteran brings two decades of experience from salmon-farming operations worldwide, including Canada’s Jail Island Salmon and Grieg Seafood, New Zealand’s King Salmon Company, and Scotland’s Loch Long Salmon.

Founding partner and current Akaroa CEO Duncan Bates will remain a partner on the company’s board.

“After 40 years building Akaroa King Salmon, it was important to me to find the right person to lead Akaroa in the years ahead,” Bates said in a release. “Stewart, who I have known for more than two decades, was my preferred choice as he brings more than 35 years of farming and salmon business experience to the role.”

– Portsmouth, New Hampshire, U.S.A.-based Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) has announced the appointment of two new members to its board of directors: Trin Tapanya and Michael Szemerda.

Tapanya is the senior vice president of operations at Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods/Thai Union Group, while Michael Szemerda is the global chief sustainability officer at Cooke and oversees the company's environmental programs, regulatory compliance, certifications, and sustainability initiatives.

"We are thrilled to welcome Michael and Trin to our board of directors," GSA Ceo Mike Kocsis said. "Their diverse perspectives and deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the seafood industry will be instrumental in helping us achieve our mission of advancing responsible seafood practices worldwide.”
