Sustainable Fisheries Partnership’s Seafood Metrics system is now available as an open-access subscription service to retailers, foodservice operators, and supply-chain companies. The system was previously only available to SFP partners.

SFP’s Seafood Metrics is a global system that tracks and monitors seafood sourcing and evaluates a company’s sourcing performance. The expansion of the program is a response to an increased interest across the supply chain in better tracking and management of key data elements (KDEs) that increases the transparency of their seafood sourcing.

Seafood Metrics features a customer-focused function designed for seafood buyers and retailers to help simplify their data management by aggregating seafood sourcing information across their entire supply chain. A new function of the system allows suppliers to generate customer-specific sustainability reports.

“The new Seafood Metrics system for suppliers is providing us with an easier, more-efficient way to manage our seafood reporting to our customers, and helps us be more transparent with our seafood sourcing more broadly,” Beaver Street Fisheries Quality Assurance Manager Casey Marion said.

Seafood Metrics includes its own fishery-specific and aquaculture-specific risk analysis based on data from SFP’s FishSource. The program also includes the ability to track and measure progress against company sustainability commitments, a supplier dashboard to evaluate sourcing performance, and a newly revised Human Rights Risk Index (HRRI) that includes a fishery score to help businesses with a high-level, human-rights risk assessment of their seafood supply chains.

The Seafood Metrics system KDE structure is also compatible with GDST standards and provides a good starting place for businesses interested in that standard.

“Businesses at the middle and end of the supply chain save time and make more informed decisions using our science-based, seafood-focused Metrics system to collect sourcing data and report sustainability performance,” SFP Global Markets Director Kathryn Novak said. “We’ve received very positive feedback about the new and updated Seafood Metrics system, in supporting ESG and transparency reporting initiatives.”

The Seafood Metrics system includes more than 500 suppliers reporting into the system for customers, which include Walmart, Publix, and Aldi.
