Thailand to host SeaWeb Seafood Summit in 2019

As things heat up in Barcelona, Spain for the 2018 SeaWeb Seafood Summit this week, the event’s organizers, Diversified Communications and SeaWeb, are looking ahead to next year when the conference will travel to Bangkok, Thailand, the partners announced on 18 June.

The premier seafood sustainability conference, which moves to a different location for each installment, will settle into Thailand’s major metropolis from 10 to 14 June, 2019, Diversified confirmed. Next year will mark the second time the Summit has been hosted in Asia – the conference’s first trip to the region was in 2012, when it was based out of Hong Kong.

By making a temporary home for the conference in Thailand in 2019, Diversified and SeaWeb intend to bring the necessary dialogue surrounding seafood sustainability to the industry’s largest consumption market, according to Liz Plizga, Group Vice President for Diversified Communications.

“We are taking the Summit and the critical conversation of sustainability to seafood’s biggest market; Asia,” Plizga said in a press release. “Having the Summit in Bangkok gives access to more stakeholders, opportunity to a continent that’s ripe for sustainability and the perfect stage—one of Asia’s most prominent marketplaces — to advance solutions.”

Plizga said organizers are hoping that the announcement of next year’s location at the outset of Barcelona’s program –  running from 18 to 22 June –  will add to this week’s forthcoming dialogues.

“Starting the conference with next year’s location in mind will help generate further conversations around global issues for an even more successful gathering in Thailand,” she said.
