Whole Foods exec joins Ocean Outcomes board

Betsy Foster, who oversees mergers and acquisitions for Whole Foods Markets as global vice president for business development, has joined the board of directors of Ocean Outcomes.

Ocean Outcomes, or O2, is an international nonprofit fishery improvement organization working in high-risk commercial fisheries worldwide to make sustainable seafood more available.

“Betsy brings with her a wealth of business, supply chain, internet technology, and retail experience,” the organization said. “[She is] passionate about health and sustainable food.”

Foster was elected to the board during its inaugural meeting in February 2017, according to 02. She has worked for Whole Foods Markets for more than 20 years, including positions as national operations controller, VP and chief information officer, and VP of purchasing, distribution, and private label.

“Wild caught sustainable seafood is a mandate at Whole Foods Market. The wild seafood we sell has to either be Marine Stewardship Council certified, or rated as ‘Green’ or ‘Yellow’ by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch and The Safina Center,” Foster said in a press release. “O2 works to improve commercial fisheries, which helps the resource, the fishery, and businesses like ours by developing a pipeline of fisheries that can meet our procurement policy through improvement projects. I’m thrilled to be able to contribute to O2’s mission of more sustainable fisheries as a board member.”
