Albertsons is expanding Plated’s meal kit offerings in its stores, including the addition of a salmon meal kit.
Albertsons, which owns Plated, a meal kit subscription service, initially offered Plated meal kits in 20 Safeway stores in Northern California and 20 Jewel-Osco stores in the Chicago area. By the end of this year, a line of six meal kits will be available in hundreds of Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, Star Market, and Hague stores.
A Pine Nut-Crusted Salmon with Creamy Tomato Farro and Roasted Green Beans kit is the lone seafood selection in the line, which also includes chicken and beef meals.
“We are excited to have Plated meal kits in our stores. Plated’s culinary expertise allows us to offer customers premium-quality, chef-designed recipes for amazing meals they can prepare at home,” Pat Brown, group vice president of merchandising and strategic initiatives for Albertsons, said in a press release.
Plated also plans to make meal kits available to Albertsons’ grocery customers via delivery in as little as two hours through Instacart. Online ordering for same day and scheduled home delivery will be available, as well as in-store pickup via Albertsons’ click-and-collect service called Drive Up and Go.
“We’ve delivered millions of meals to Americans through our acclaimed subscription service, and now we’ll be able to meet and serve millions of new customers with an entirely new level of convenience,” Plated CEO and co-founder Josh Hix said. “Since less than 20 percent of American consumers have tried a meal kit, there’s tremendous opportunity for us to make it easy for many more people to cook recipes they’ll love at home.”
Future Plated meal kits, which will rotate seasonally, will include beef, chicken, vegetarian, and seafood recipes, according to Plated. A Plated spokesperson declined to say which seafood species would be featured in its future retail meal kits.
