Amazon expands Prime Day, adds new Go location in Seattle

Amazon’s global Prime Day, which runs from 16 July through 17 July, has been expanded to include several Whole Foods Market items. In addition, the massive online retailer is opening a second Amazon Go store.

Prime Day, which is similar to Cyber Monday in November, offers discounts on millions of Amazon products. For the first time, Whole Foods Market products are included in the special discounts — although the exact products featured have not yet been revealed.

United States Amazon Prime members can receive an additional 10 percent off hundreds of sale items in Whole Foods Market stores.

Plus, Amazon added Australia, Singapore, the Netherlands and Luxembourg to the Prime Day deals. Members in the U.S., U.K., Spain, Mexico, Japan, India, Italy, Germany, France, China, Canada, Belgium, and Austria can also take advantage of Prime Day deals.

Amazon also recently expanded delivery of Whole Foods Market products to Prime members in Chicago, Houston, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, and San Antonio.

“Starting today, Prime members in those cities can shop through Prime Now for bestselling items including fresh produce, high quality meat and seafood, everyday staples and other locally sourced items from Whole Foods Market,” Amazon said in a press release in late June.

The service launched earlier this year with plans for continued expansion across the U.S. throughout 2018.

Meanwhile, Amazon is also expanding its physical stores footprint. The company said it will open a second Amazon Go location at 920 5th Avenue in Seattle, Washington, this fall. The new location has about 70 percent more square footage than the original store, which is also in Seattle.
