Chef Jamie Oliver and Findus create new range featuring Alaskan pollock

The partnership between Nomad Foods-owned Findus and renowned chef Jamie Oliver, which began in 2012, has introduced its frozen fish and seafood product line in North America.

Oliver and Findus jointly created the suite of products that have proved successful in the United Kingdom, including fish fillet fingers, made with Alaskan pollock fillets, as well as a variety of fishcakes. The products focus on convenience, freshness and sound sustainable ethics, according to Oliver.

“Fish is delicious and good for you but, as most of us know, we need to be careful about overfishing,” said Oliver in a press statement. “What I’ve done with my range by Findus is focus on delicious, convenient favourites like fish cakes and fish fingers, but I’ve made sure we’re using sustainable fish so mums and dads can buy a great product with no nasties.”

Oliver said the idea for the product line was spurred by a mutual interest in upping fish consumption and supporting sustainable fishing.

“My fish with Findus is frozen within a matter of hours of being caught – at its best – locking in all that fantastic flavor, no mucking about. And as usual, I’ve been all over the recipes making sure we’re using chunks of fish and not minced fish," Oliver said. "It’s about making simple, delicious food accessible and affordable without compromising on the environment.”

Findus – which produces core brands such as Birds Eye, Findus and IGLO – was brought under the Nomad Foods Europe umbrella back in 2015. Various brands produced by Findus are now available for purchase beyond the company’s leading European market.

“Now available in North America, our iconic brands are meeting the growing demand for great tasting, easy to prepare, nutritious food that is less wasteful and delivers good value,” Findus said in a release.
