Chicken of the Sea crowns winner of National Salmon Day contest

A resident of the state of Texas has been named the winner of Chicken of the Sea’s National Salmon Day sweepstakes, and will board an Alaskan cruise to spot the pink fish for her 67th birthday in 2017 as her prize.

Cathy Olive of Del Valle, Texas was deemed the Grand Prize recipient for the “Salmon Loves Rice Sweepstakes,” a national nutritional initiative which saw Chicken of the Sea reminding Americans about the health and wellness advantages of America’s second most-popular fish, salmon. Part and parcel to a larger campaign being carried out by the seafood supplier, the contest in question was spurred by a partnership between Chicken of the Sea and Minute Rice, and sought to introduce consumers to the “myriad pairing possibilities of salmon and rice.”

One of 44,000 entrants, Olive qualified for the sweepstakes by correctly answering a series of salmon trivia questions using the social media hashtag #NationalSalmonDay. As the winner, Olive will receive a prize package including a seven-day Alaskan cruise and Chicken of the Sea Flavored Salmon Pouches and Minute Ready to Serve Rice products valued at USD 5,440 (EUR 4,977).

“We congratulate Cathy not only on receiving the big prize but also helping us get the word out about the essential nutritional benefits that packaged and wild salmon bring to the table,” said Maureen McDonnell, Chicken of the Sea’s director of brand marketing and category management, in a prepared statement.

Chicken of the Sea crafted the sweepstakes following the 2016 release of “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020,” suggesting that Americans include seafood in at least two meals (or eight ounces) per week.
