Florida-based importer launches new line of kosher tuna for the US market

Prompted by increased requests for more certified kosher seafood products, Florida-based importer Channel Seafoods International is launching a new line of kosher yellowfin tuna loins and saku for the U.S. market.

Channel Seafoods International President Mike Shooshani said the company decided to expand its OU Kosher-certified offerings following an influx in requests.

“Kosher products are an expanding market and we already had experience certifying other seafood products like tilapia,” Shooshani said in a press release. “Our West Coast office saw a rise for requests of additional Kosher seafood products, including tuna.”

“At this moment we are only offering saku and tuna loins, but our goal is to work with our supplier in Vietnam to have their entire production be certified [OU] Kosher,” he added. “We pride ourselves in offering high-quality seafood products that are responsibly sourced and now we can include a growing line of certified [OU] Kosher seafood for new and existing customers.”

The product line was certified by OU Kosher. According to the certifier, over 60 percent of America’s produced foods are certified Kosher, including Oreo cookies and Coca-Cola products. Additionally, “over [USD] 150 billion [EUR 134 billion] of [kosher] certified products are consumed annually, and spending continues to rise dramatically,” OU Kosher stated on its website.

Channel Seafoods International was founded in 1983, and specializes in providing high-quality frozen seafood products to the retail, wholesale, and foodservice markets. The company’s retail brands include Channel’s Golden Sun, Southern Bay, and Southern Bay Gold, which are sold throughout the United States and Latin America.
