LoveTheWild adds flavors, revamps packaging

LoveTheWild, a United States supplier of frozen seafood meals, recently re-launched its meal kits, featuring a 30 percent price reduction, several new flavors, and more eco-friendly packaging.

“As a young brand, we are constantly innovating and adapting to the market. This renovation will better fit our target consumer's needs, and make the kit available at a price point that is easily swappable for their free range chicken, opening up more meal occasions and taking seafood out of the ‘special occasion only category’,” Jacqueline Claudia, founder and CEO of Boulder, Colorado-based LoveTheWild, told SeafoodSource.

LoveTheWild was able to cut the price of its products by moving to a smaller portion size, reducing the size of its packaging, and other efficiencies.

“Customers indicated the original portion was too generous for a single meal,” the supplier said in a press release. So, LoveTheWild cut the portion size by two ounces (to around 5 ounces) “to align with the USDA-recommended serving size, and to eliminate leftover waste”.

“LoveTheWild’s updated packaging keeps the best elements of our products like the sourcing panel, and now shows delicious plated food. Better yet, we have made big strides in our packaging sustainability,” Claudia said. “The package is now smaller (and fits four across on a shelf to be more efficient for retailers), and we're using compostable plastics in our sauce tray and film.”

While the revamped product line still includes LoveTheWild’s top-performing legacy flavors, “several new flavors and species with broad appeal” have been added, Claudia said.

Existing flavors include: Barramundi with Mango Sriracha, Red Trout with Salsa Verde, and Rainbow Trout with Salsa, while new flavors are: Shrimp with Cajun Crème, Salmon with Maple Mustard, Shrimp with Coconut Red Curry, Barramundi with Red Pepper Almond, Shrimp with Tomato Butter, Salmon with Miso Honey Ginger, and Barramundi with Cajun Crème.

LoveTheWild began rolling out some of its flavors at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide in early March.

LoveThe Wild is sourcing fish for the revamped line from several different aquaculture suppliers, including: Australis Barramundi, Kvaroy Fiskeoppdrett for its Atlantic salmon, Pacifico for its striped bass, and Fish Breeders of Idaho and Manila Patagonia for its rainbow trout.
