US retailer rolls out new tuna products, sourced from Tri Marine

U.S.-based supermarket chain Brookshire Grocery Company has introduced two new sustainable tuna varieties into its private brands and onto its shelves.

Solid white Albacore tuna is now available through the Brookshire’s brand in a five-ounce can, while chunk light skipjack is available in both 12- and five-ounce can sizes.

Both tuna offerings are sustainably sourced, according to a press release from Brookshire. Brookshire’s tuna supplier, Tri Marine, uses methods and techniques for catching tuna approved by the International Sustainable Seafood Foundation – an organization for which Tri Marine is a founding member. Brookshire’s skipjack tuna has been acquired without the use of a fish aggregating device (FAD), and its albacore tuna has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council.

Brookshire operates 152 stories within the United States, with three distribution centers and five manufacturing facilities. The new tuna offerings join an existing pool of more than 1,900 products bearing the Brookshire label, and can be found in in all of the grocer’s eponymous banner stores, as well as Super 1 Foods and FRESH by Brookshire’s stores in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.
