Huw Thomas to leave Morrisons, join Pew Charitable Trusts

Huw Thomas, the fisheries and aquaculture manager at Morrisons, will be changing positions after taking a position with the Pew Charitable Trusts.

Thomas confirmed to SeafoodSource on Friday, 30 September that he has taken a job with Pew’s Ending Illegal Fishing Project, currently directed by Tony Long. The project is “Working to ensure a sustainable future for our oceans by combating illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing around the world."

Thomas has been employed at Morrisons, the fourth-largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom, since 2012. In his time there, he initiated a full review of the company’s seafood policies, eventually cataloguing all of the Morrisons seafood sourcing as part of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership’s Ocean Disclosure Project.

Thomas discussed the project and Morrisons’ other sustainability efforts with SeafoodSource on 12 September.

He said he will be starting his new job in October.
