Increased Q3 salmon harvest, feed sales for Bakkafrost

Faroese salmon producer Bakkafrost Group harvested 12,900 metric tons (MT) of head-on gutted (HOG) weight fish in the third-quarter of this year, up from 7,200 MT in the corresponding period of 2018.

According to the company’s latest trading update, the contribution to the total from its farming operations in the north of the Faroes amounted to 3,700 MT, while farms in the west supplied 9,200 MT.

Bakkafrost also sold 33,900 MT of fish feed in the last quarter, up from 23,500 MT a year previously.

Last week, the company announced it was acquiring a 68.6 percent share of The Scottish Salmon Company. Since then, Bakkafrost has acquired an additional 9.2 percent of the company and is seeking to purchase 100 percent of it in the coming weeks. It has set the date of an extraordinary general meeting, where decisions will be made on share issue authorization to finance the transaction, for 18 October.

The company's stock, traded on the Oslo Børs under the symbol BAKKA, is up nearly 30 percent year-to-date, reaching NOK 533.50 (USD 58.38, EUR 53.36) in trading on Wednesday, 2 October.
