Pure Salmon Poland, a land-based Atlantic salmon farm located near Warsaw, Poland, has received Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification for responsible fish farming, the company announced 23 January.
Pure Salmon Poland is co-owned by AquaMaof Aquaculture Technologies and 8F Asset Management, a private equity fund that has invested in a huge expansion of land-based salmon farming around the world, with projects planned in Japan, France, North America, China, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
The Polish recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) operation, formerly known as Global Fish, was founded in 2016. It currently sells fish of four kilograms and larger to Poland’s domestic market, including to local retail chains, food chains, and luxury restaurants. Additionally, it operates both as a research and development and training center for AquaMaof and Pure Salmon.
“We’re thrilled to announce that after a lengthy and successful audit we’ve received the ASC certification,” Pure Salmon Poland CEO Eran Huppert said. “With environmental awareness growing among our clients and consumers, it was very important for us to obtain this certification to back our commitment to producing the highest-quality fish in the most responsible way.”
Pure Salmon has set the goal of producing a combined 260,000 tons of salmon per year globally once all of its planned RAS facilities are operational. Each of the farms will use AquaMaof proprietary RAS technology and design. AquaMaof has been conducting trials and experiments at the Pure Salmon Poland facility “to enhance the technology’s sustainability and streamline operations,” and has been using it as a base to train its staff on operations and maintenance best practices.
