Avramar appoints new marketing chief

Mediterranean fish farming group Avramar has recruited Øyvind Ihle to the position of chief marketing officer, effective 1 June, 2021. 

Ihle previously held executive marketing positions Veramaris, Pronova Biopharma (a subsidiary of BASF), Mattel, and Unilever. 

Avramar said Ihle will drive the group’s marketing strategy to establish the new Avramar brand toward customers and consumers, as well as execute on the strategy to grow the value-added product portfolio, and support the company’s vision to become top global aquaculture player.

Ihle will lead the marketing team and work closely with the commercial division and all other functions across the organization, as well as with external agencies and experts, Avramar said in a press release. He will also partner with processors, wholesalers, retailers, and chefs to drive category growth in all channels where the company operates, and provide consumers with "more exciting, healthy product propositions."

“At a time when consumers increasingly turn to healthier choices and climate change [is] becoming a ‘must’ for every company to address, developing a sustainability strategy is essential to ensuring a better future for all of us," Ihle said. "I am particularly honored to join the Avramar team, bringing along experience from health, nutrition, and sustainability to contribute to the company vision of inspiring people to embrace the best Mediterranean fish, raised with passion and unmatched skills."

Avramar CEO Alex Myers said he was really happy” Ilhe had joined the company.

“His international and wide experience will contribute largely to our vision to lead in our industry, bringing the Mediterranean to tables around the world by offering better fish for better, healthier lives,” Myers said. “At the same time, Øyvind will support our long-term strategy for a brighter, more sustainable future for aquaculture. So that we can evolve and create even more opportunities for our partners as well, decreasing at the same time our environmental footprint.”

Avramar is one of the top sea bass and sea bream producers in the world, and the largest producer of Mediterranean fish. It was formed through the merger of Greek and Spanish aquaculture companies Andromeda, Nireus, Selonda, and fish feed company Perseus.
