Haifa Smoked Fish expands recall of Turbot Cold Smoked packages

Haifa Smoked Fish is expanding its late December recall of Turbot Cold Smoked packages to include 920 additional pounds over potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Jamaica, New York, U.S.A.-based Haifa said in a press release that its Turbot Cold Smoked 8-ounce packages were distributed to retailers in New York and New Jersey. No illnesses have been reported.

The recall was the result of a routine sampling program by the New York State Department of Agriculture. The agency found listeria in the finished product – Turbot Cold Smoked 8-ounce packages – in the lot included in the original recall: Lot #246.

“Haifa Smoked Fish ceased distribution of [Lot #246]…and Haifa Smoked Fish [is] to continue their investigation as to what caused the problem,” the company said.

While the original recall included only Lot #246, It has been expanded to include Lots 97, 223, 299, and 321, due to the potential for those lots to also contain listeria.

Meanwhile, Conley, Georgia, U.S.A.–based GHGA, LLC. is voluntarily recalling 266, 7.8 oz. packages of Chicken Salad Croissants due to undeclared fish.

The recalled products were shipped to Kroger stores in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina on 30 December, 2021.

“The recall was initiated after it was discovered that packages of the product may contain tuna salad instead of chicken salad, and fish is not declared on the label,” GHGA said in a press release.

The supplier is urging customers with fish concerns or allergies to dispose of the recalled products or return to the store of purchase for a full refund.
