Snowfox’s retail sushi program expands in Northeast US

JFE Franchising, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jim Kim Holdings, is expanding its Snowfox Fresh Sushi Program in Weis Markets’ stores in the Northeast United States.

Sunbury, Pennsylvania-based Weis Markets, which operates 198 stores, is utilizing Snowfox’s full-service sushi program in its stores - as well as a Bento Express service in some stores. Bento Express from Bento Sushi US (part of the Snowfox-Yo! Sushi merger) is an extended shelf-life sushi offering.

“For stores where full service is not warranted, we asked Bento to go in and do a delivery two to three times a week,” Snowfox Buyer Jason Yang told SeafoodSource.

Weis operates stores in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, West Virginia, and Delaware.

Snowfox’s full-service sushi program is also available in 150 Sam’s Club stores, 10 divisions of Kroger, more than 100 Albertsons’ stores, and other grocery club stores.

Snowfox’s growth plans include more stores in the Northeastern U.S. and Pacific Northwest, Yang told SeafoodSource in December.

California is a target market, and Yang expects Snowfox to expand further into the state in 2020. “We are just waiting on permitting,” he said.

Snowfox’s expansion accelerated after it merged with London, United Kingdom-based YO! Sushi last July. The merger, which created one of the largest Japanese food companies outside of Japan, included SnowFox, YO!, Bento Sushi, and Taiko Foods.
