Meal-kit provider HelloFresh introduced Pacific Seafood’s Columbia River steelhead trout to its offerings this month, the company announced on 3 June.
The first recipe featuring the product, Steelhead Trout Over Basil Parm Risotto with Burst Tomatoes, will begin shipping to customers across the United States on 8 June, with additional recipes to follow, HelloFresh said. The decision to partner with Pacific Seafood and incorporate its steelhead trout into HelloFresh’s menu lineup was made with consumers in mind, according to Marcel Comtois, vice president of procurement for HelloFresh US.
“We are always looking to give home cooks expanded menu choices and introduce them to new ingredients, including variations of seafood,” Comtois said. “Pacific Seafood’s Columbia River Steelhead Trout is a sustainably-raised fish bursting with great flavor and we’re excited to officially add it to our HelloFresh menu.”
Pacific Seafood Columbia River steelhead trout is Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certified and recognized by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program as green, or “Best Choice.” It is sustainably-sourced from a remote part of Washington’s Okanagan Highland on the Columbia River, and is raised without hormones, pesticides, or herbicides.
“Family owned and operated for more than 75 years, it is our goal at Pacific Seafood to always deliver fresh, sustainable, high-quality seafood,” Pacific Seafood Director of Marketing Lorin Gelfand said. “We are proud to partner with HelloFresh to provide Columbia River Steelhead Trout, a Pacific Seafood exclusive, to their customers.”
In 2017, HelloFresh joined forces with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program, vowing to offer seafood rated as “Best Choice” (green), “Good Alternative” (yellow), or that is eco-certified to a standard recommended by Seafood Watch whenever possible.
