Cooke Inc.-owned Canadian seafood supplier AC Covert is holding an official opening its new distribution and retail outlet in Burnside Business Park, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia tomorrow.
The center will host the local community on 4 December for an open house event featuring seafood product samples, special offers, and prizes, AC Covert said in a press release.
Founded in 1938 and purchased by the Cooke family in 2008, AC Covert supplies to foodservice and retail channels across Atlantic Canada and North America. The company boasts a product portfolio comprised of more than 400 fresh and frozen seafood items, including smoked salmon, lobster, halibut, scallops, and more.
AC Covert’s new two-story, 26,000-square-foot facility plays an integral part in its parent company’s overarching growth strategy for Nova Scotia, Cooke Inc. CEO Glenn Cooke explained.
“AC Covert now employs 30 people and Cooke spent [CAD 5.2 million (USD 3.9 million, EUR 3.5 million] constructing this new two-story, 26,000 square foot distribution center and retail outlet where six delivery trucks operate from six days a week,” Cooke said. “This expansion is an integral part of our growth plan and we are part way through investing CAD 112 million [USD 84 million, EUR 75 million] in Nova Scotia.”
Nova Scotia’s Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Keith Colwell said that the lucrative seafood province welcomes AC Covert’s expansion.
“Nova Scotia is Canada’s number-one seafood supplier and we now export to 80 international markets,” Colwell said. “We’re home to a diverse range of premium quality seafood and value-added products and it’s wonderful that AC Covert has expanded in our province to distribute products from over 30 Nova Scotia seafood companies.”
AC Covert – which delivers responsibly-sourced and prepared seafood to fine dining restaurants, hotels, gastro pubs, professional caterers, and retailers locally and across North America – said its hours of operation will continue to run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
“Burnside is the largest industrial park north of Boston and east of Montreal, with almost 2,000 enterprises and approximately 30,000 employees,” added Halifax Regional Municipality Mike Savage. “Cooke’s investment in AC Covert shows how our growing community is a beacon for attracting business investment creating local jobs.”
