ASMI selects new executive director

The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute has promoted its own Alexa Tonkovich to executive director, thus filling the role left vacant by Mike Cerne this past summer.

Tonkovich, who previously held the role of International Director with ASMI, will be taking over the reins from Ray Riutta, Cerne’s interim replacement. Hired in August 2013, Tonkovich has ample experience leading ASMI's international program and spearheading the organization’s marketing efforts abroad.

Even before becoming ASMI’s international director, Tonkovich performed various leadership tasks as a manager for the institute’s Asia and Emerging Markets for nearly four years.

"Alexa Tonkovich is ideal as ASMI’s Executive Director because she is committed to the mission statement of the organization and is extremely dedicated to the future success of the Alaska seafood industry," Megan Rider, ASMI International Program Coordinator, told SeafoodSource of Tonkovich's promotion. "She is a bright, inspiring and energizing professional that leads by example. It has been such an honor to work for Ms. Tonkovich over the past couple of years in the international program as she has such a breadth of knowledge of our markets in Japan, China, Europe and Brazil, as well as domestically."

"The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute is fortunate to have a strong, devoted and dynamic leader who will work tirelessly on behalf of the State of Alaska and the Alaska seafood industry," Rider added.
