Chicken of the Sea adds Carpenter and Woofter to its responsible sourcing team

Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods has added two sustainability veterans to its responsible sourcing team with the hiring of Peter Carpenter and Jennifer Woofter.

Carpenter will lead the company’s quality assurance group as director of technical services and sustainability. He will be based out of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and will have responsibility for engaging with suppliers to ensure their supply chains are in compliance with Chicken of the Sea’s sustainability strategy, “encompassing safe and legal labor practices, marine conservation and responsible sourcing,” according to a press release.

Previously, Carpenter served as a consultant to the seafood industry on food safety, sustainability and regulatory issues and he has also held the position of BAP certification manager at Global Aquaculture Alliance.

Woofter has been named the director of sustainability of Thai Union North America (Thai Union owns Chicken of the Sea). She will have responsibility for guiding Thai Union’s U.S. subsidiaries in their implementation of “Sea Change” – Thai Union’s global sustainability strategy. Woofter is the founder and president of Strategic Sustainability Consulting, where she consulting on projects in the seafood industry relating to green auditing, sustainability planning, carbon footprint analysis and sustainability reporting.

“I look forward to working closely with Peter and Jennifer as they lead COSFF sustainability initiatives in alignment with Sea Change,” Chicken of the Sea Frozen Foods President and CEO Bryan Rosenberg said. “They are currently working on several important initiatives including our Supplier Code of Conduct, supply chain mapping, and a more proactive approach to customer communication, where we can listen to and address concerns, and regularly share our progress in these important areas.”
