Cooke USA, a subsidiary of Cooke Aquaculture, has turned in an offer to acquire Fripur, a recently bankrupt company out of Uruguay.
Cooke is competing with one other entity to absorb the company, which operates Uruguay’s largest fish processing plant. Cooke USA has hired Antarctica Advisors to guide the company through the potential sale.
“The offer complied with the terms of the Court's Specifications, including the deposit of a guarantee and an economically sustainable Business Plan that incorporates workers in a progressive manner. Cooke Seafood USA has engaged Irrazabal & Asociados and Antarctica Advisors to comply with formal requirements set by the Court at the opening of tenders in order to successfully acquire the assets of Fripur,” noted Antartica Advisors.
Fripur had to lay of some 960 workers as of 19 August, when it officially shuttered operations after filing for bankruptcy.
Wanchese Fish Company – which harvests, processes and distributes a wide variety of seafood products out of the United States and Argentina and has a sales office in France – is also owned by Cooke Seafood USA.
