Eco-friendly shark, triploid trout featured at Seafood Show Osaka

1_chris-p4.jpgNiche shrimp too – There are now three types of shrimp popular in Japan – whiteleg (Litopenaeus vannamei), black tiger (Penaeus monodon) and flower shrimp (Penaeus semisulcatus), also known as green tiger shrimp, or in Japan as hana or aka-ashi ebi. Two vendors were offering yet more variety.

Two years ago, Yokohama-based Yokorei Group introduced blue shrimp (Litopenaeus stylirostris) organically farmed in Brunei Darussalam, aiming at hotels or other upscale users. Now they have extended their line to boiled shrimp.

Meanwhile, Tokusui Corp., based in Fukuoka, but with a factory in Indonesia, offered a mind-boggling variety of shrimp: white (Litopenaeus setiferus ), whiteleg, banana (Fenneropenaeus merguiensis), pink (Pandalus borealis), sea tiger, black tiger, flower, and Irian tiger.
