High Liner Foods and Trident Seafoods have split lucrative U.S. government contracts to supply USD 3.76 million (EUR 3.5 million) worth of Alaska pollock.
Portsmouth, New Hampshire, U.S.A.-based High Liner will supply USD 2.37 million (EUR 2.2 million) worth of pollock fillets and sticks, while Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based Trident Seafoods will supply 1.38 million (EUR 1.3 million) worth of bulk pollock for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service and other USDA domestic food distribution programs.
The award brings USDA’s fiscal year 2024 purchases of Alaska pollock to 28.2 million pounds worth USD 66.5 million (EUR 61 million), according to Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers CEO Craig Morris.
“This places USDA fiscal year 2024 Alaska pollock purchases in second place all-time in volume and third all-time in value,” he told SeafoodSource.
The total purchase was nearly 1.74 million pounds, which included 874,000 pounds of breaded pollock sticks, 712,800 pounds of bulk pollock, 76,000 pounds of pollock sticks, and 76,000 pounds of pollock fillets.
In early April, the USDA announced it would buy 5.7 million pounds of frozen Alaska pollock nuggets, as well as 35,300 pounds of various frozen fish fillets. The government said it was seeking 9,900 pounds of frozen Atlantic pollock fillets, 5.7 million pounds of frozen Alaska pollock nuggets, 15,500 pounds of frozen haddock fillets, and 9,900 pounds of frozen ocean perch fillets.
