Lobster supplier plans to rebuild after fire

Canadian lobster supplier Paturel International plans to rebuild its Deer Island, New Brunswick lobster storage facility after it was lost to a fire last weekend.

The lobster tank house, which was completely destroyed, was not being used at the time.

"The surreal part of it is looking at it and saying we're lucky we didn't have any loss of lives. It's fortunate there's no product that was ready to be shipped,” Member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick Rick Doucet told CBC News.

The storage facility was a major part of lobster fishing on Deer Island, according to Doucet.

"It's a small population, but the lobster fishery is very strong,” he said. “Every single plant, every holding facility, plays an integral role, especially when you're dealing with proximity to market."

Representatives of Paturel International are talking with their insurance company and are looking to rebuild, according to Doucet.
