Ren Seafoods selects Mobile, Alabama for new seafood processing and distribution hub

Mobile, Alabama, U.S.A. will be the location for Ren Seafoods’ new seafood processing facility and distribution hub, if all goes according to the company's plan.

The seafood company said it will invest USD 12.4 million (EUR 10.2 million) into a shuttered manufacturing facility in Mobile for the project, which will create 54 jobs, Area Development reported. Ren Seafoods, which is affiliated with Pennsylvania-based The Fishin’ Co., expects to break ground on the new facility in April, with construction tentatively wrapping up later this year.

Ren Seafoods CEO Javier Infante said his firm sees ample opportunity in settling into the U.S. Southeast.

“We are creating a hub for seafood distribution covering the Southeast region,” Infante said. “We are following their path and its vicinity allows us to combine product deliveries to have a unique logistics operation. In addition, there is high-quality, local seafood in this region that we will be able to access for our customer base.”

Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Economic Development David Rodgers said the development “further cements Mobile as a prime location for logistics and warehousing,” according to Area Development.

“The project aligns with the chamber’s economic development strategy to continue to grow Mobile’s logistics and distribution network, especially as it relates to containerized cargo through the Port of Mobile and APM Terminals,” Rodgers said.

Mayor Sandy Stimpson told Made In Alabama that Mobile embraces a business-forward approach.

“This exciting announcement is just another example of how well positioned Mobile is to attract businesses from around the country who are looking to invest in a city that is business friendly,” Stimpson said. “We are excited to add Ren Seafoods to our local corporate fabric and look forward to seeing their continued success and growth here in Mobile.”

Temperature-controlled logistics and supply chain solutions provider MTC Logistics introduced Ren Seafoods to Mobile, a location with great international potential, MTC Logistics Vice President of International Supply Chain Solutions Brooks Royster said. The seafood company coming to town “is further testament to Mobile being successful as a logistics hub and able to attract new international players,” Royster told Made In Alabama.

A privately-held company, Ren Seafoods sells and handles 150 million pounds of seafood per year, servicing both the retail and foodservice channels.
