StarKist joins NFI's Salmon Council

StarKist Co. has joined the National Fisheries Institute’s Salmon Council, a coalition of seafood companies with a mission of promoting the health benefits of salmon.

“Salmon is America’s favorite fish and we are excited about collaborating with the NFI Salmon Council to help spread awareness about salmon as a delicious and healthy protein,” said Andy Mecs, vice president of marketing and innovation for StarKist Co., in a press release.

“The addition of StarKist brings another organization operating at the forefront of seafood innovation into the NFI Salmon Council,” Brandon F. Phillips, senior director of communications and advocacy for NFI, said. “Salmon is a delicious lean protein and one of the best sources of DHA and EPA Omega 3 fatty acids and Vitamin D. StarKist’s creative salmon products make it easier for more audiences to benefit from salmon.”

StarKist was the first brand to introduce single-serve pouch seafood products, which includes wild-caught StarKist Salmon Creations and StarKistSelects E.V.O.O. Wild-Caught Pink Salmon, according to Mecs.

The NFI Salmon Council is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and “continues to set the industry standard for salmon marketing, expertise and leadership, in conjunction with the recommendations prescribed in the federal Dietary Guidelines for Americans," the council said.

“Our members are invested in leading the industry and are always seeking to break new ground, which underscores the value that association with the NFI Salmon Council brings,” Phillips said. “We are geared toward growing our members’ relationships with existing salmon lovers and developing new connections for them with consumers who have yet to enjoy all the benefits salmon has to offer.”
