Pangasius exporters began trading their wares online at the end of last month, with the goal of making their trading more transparent, according to Vietnam News.
Võ Thị Thanh Hương, deputy general secretary of the Việt Nam Pangasius Association, said a Swiss organization had helped set up online trading platforms at www.mekongfishmarket.com and www.pangasiusmap.com.
Pangasius exporters can sell their products globally using the sites, she said. While www.mekongfishmarket.com would contain news about the association’s 50 members and their products, www.pangasiusmap.com would carry information about the farming areas and the standards they meet.
Information about each of the more than 1,100 ponds in Vietnam, with a combined area of around 12.3 million square meters, will be regularly updated, Hương said.
Nguyễn Ngọc Hải, chairman of the Thới An Pangasius Co-operative based in Cần Thơ, said the websites would be a great help to the pangasius industry.
Farmers can get up-to-date information about the market, and fish and feed prices, he said. To help the online market work efficiently, the association wants a logistics network developed. Once the network comes into being, all pangasius products would be standardized, Hương said.
