Icicle, Trident benefit from US government’s huge canned salmon buy

The United States Department of Agriculture recently purchased more than USD 6.4 million (EUR 5.4 million) worth of canned pink salmon from two major North American seafood suppliers.

Icicle Seafoods and Trident Seafoods, both based in Seattle, Washington, will be distributing salmon to children’s nutrition and other related domestic food assistance programs for fiscal year 2018.

Icicle is supplying the majority of the canned salmon, with a contract worth around USD 5 million (EUR 4.2 million), while Trident’s contract is around USD 1.4 million (EUR 1.2 million).

The USDA asked for bids on supplying canned salmon on 17 May, 2018. The two suppliers will deliver the salmon in several states from 1 September, 2018, through 31 March, 2019.
