New line of seafood trays, optimized for extended shelf life, to launch at Seafood Expo North America

Packaging innovator and developer Maxwell Chase will introduce a first-of-its-kind seafood packaging line, optimized to significantly extend shelf-life of both fresh and frozen seafood products, at this year’s Seafood Expo North America event, to be held in Boston, Massachusetts from 11 to 13 March.

Maxwell Chase’s new SeaWell Seafood Trays, which are patent-pending, feature integrated absorbent technology incorporated into wells at the bottom of trays to absorb excess fluids, a feature that “lessens potential damage to seafood products,” according to the company, which is owned by CSP Technologies, Inc. The tray system, which comes in a signature dark blue finish and a variety of sizes, is capable of extending the shelf life of fresh seafood by 50 percent or more in many cases, and is also able to enhance the shelf life of frozen seafood products, the company said.

“The shelf life of frozen seafood also is extended; here, products can be packed frozen and then thawed in the same package maintaining product integrity, with resulting fluids absorbed in the tray’s wells – invisible to consumers, who enjoy a pristine product,” Maxwell Chase explained in a press release.

“Whether fresh or frozen, a key benefit is that geographic markets for seafood processors can be expanded,” the company added.

The Seawell Seafood Trays are “automation-friendly” for high-speed production environments and offer clear visibility of the packed product for inspection. For industrial kitchens, the trays represent a convenient “case-to-cook” solution that promotes ease of execution, the company noted.

Maxwell Chase’s Seawell Seafood Trays have the potential to be a huge game-changer for the industry, according to general manager Neal Watson.

“Quite simply, the new SeaWell seafood trays have the potential to revolutionize the seafood industry,” said Watson. “They represent a game-changing technological breakthrough offering superior product protection for customers’ high-value seafood products. The result is extended market reach, enhanced brand recognition and improved consumer experiences.”

Maxwell Chase will be exhibiting at Seafood Expo North America at booth #1487.
